Wrestling

P1020509

At KO we have both Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling classes. These Two Wrestling styles are both modern Olympic disciplines.

In the Greco Roman style of wrestling holds below the waist are forbidden. This restriction results in an emphasis on throws, since a wrestler cannot use trips to take an opponent to the ground or avoid throws by hooking or grabbing their opponent's leg.

Freestyle includes all the techniques from Greco but also allows leg attacks and defence.

As well as being exciting and dynamic sports to learn and train both wrestling styles have great applications within the discipline of Mixed Martial Arts.

Muay Thai

greg wmc

Muay Thai is an ancient Martial Art which has its roots in ancient Siam, Cambodia, Southern India and Indochina. Traces of Muay Thai and Muay Boran can be found from around 400AD though the art is sometimes believed to be even older. Muay Thai origins are in warfare and the art is closely linked to the Indochina art of Krabi Krabong which uses many different ancient weapons as well as extremely fierce and dangerous Muay Boran techniques.

Back in the modern day Muay Thai is a sanitised though extremely tough Martial Art. Muay Thai is the stand-up Martial Art of choice for MMA fighters across the globe. Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and is also widely practiced in competion in the UK, Netherlands, and Eastern Europe. MMA fighters often adopt a slightly different stance than traditional Muay Thai fighters which is something you will learn in our Muay Thai striking classes hosted by Master Khru Bill.

Muay Thai uses striking and clinch techniques, using the shin rather than the foot in its most aggressive attacks. Elbows, punches and knees are used to dominate the opponent and clinch take downs are used to ground the opponent. Unlike most other asian Martial Arts the instep is very rarely used to prevent broken bones in the foot.
