MMA - Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) can historically be traced back to early civilization. However, in its modern form it first came to prominence in the early 1990s with the development of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The UFC was initially intended to test the effectiveness of different Martial Arts against one another. Rules were minimal to allow all aspect of various Martial Arts to be applied, allowing all Striking and Grappling techniques both standing on the ground. As the UFC and MMA grew in popularity it was was realised by many that to be master of just one fighting strategy was no longer enough and you had to learn various discipline to become an efficient Mixed Martial Artist.

Martial Arts that are used in our MMA classes are as follows:

  • Muay Thai
  • Wrestling (Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling)
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling

           

Essentially you should view the MMA class as all round Martial Arts where you can expect to learn a variety of technique from different martial arts in combination.
